AIR 2017 @ The G.R.A.I.N. Store is currently in development and will consist of one to two week artist residencies & also one to two day artist visits.
Pending funding we expect the program to commence in March/April and run through to September/October 2017.
Artist In Residence Program
Residencies include studio space and accommodation for 1 to 2 weeks and will potentially take 4 forms;
Artists will be required to be in the studio &/or meeting with local artists or community to develop projects &/or conducting site visits for art making, research or inspiration 6 days per week. They must also present an artist talk/public lecture or performance profiling their practice and a separate skills workshop imparting techniques or expertise to the local community. These may potentially be included as part of a minimum required two hours per day of open studio/public access during normal gallery open hours (11am - 4pm, Thu-Sat).
Visiting Artist Program
This program will consist of a one to two day visit to meet with G.R.A.I.N. Store staff and members and /or other local artists or community groups to exchange ideas and explore opportunities for future collaborations, and /or site visits to local places for art making, research or inspiration. Visiting artists will also be required to present an artist talk/public lecture or performance profiling their practice OR a workshop imparting their skills and knowledge to the local community. Artist visits will either be fully or partially funded – including artist workshop or lecture/performance fees & overnight accommodation.
Exhibition Outcome
AIR 2017 is planned to culminate in a group exhibition in October/November showcasing all participant artists and some of the artworks (either complete or works in progress) produced during or directly related to their visit or residency.
Expressions of Interest – CLOSING 9 DEC 2016
Our current call for expressions of interest is focused on Fully Funded participation to allow us to identify and connect with suitable interested artists who will then be selected to be included as part of funding applications to be submitted to various authorities in early 2017.
We are looking for Expressions of Interest from:
Artists with families who wish to be accompanied by their partner and children during school holidays will also be considered.
Disciplines & Themes
Expressions of interest are open to all artists working in diverse disciplines including but not limited too visual arts, performance, music, writing, film and multi media. Any field of artistic enquiry is welcome but we are particularly interested in artists whose work relates to or who are interested in exploring inspirations from landscape, the environment, social equity and human rights or indigenous, immigrant or local culture. We are also seeking community artists who are interested in working with general community or culturally or ethnically diverse groups including but not limited to migrants, children, youth, the aged, socially isolated or people with disabilities.
Accommodation
Various options can be made available from self-contained houses, to hotel/motel, B & B or billeting with local residents.
Travel & Food
Resident or visiting artists are responsible for all of their own travel and food costs.
Formal Submission - January/February 2017
In all cases, there will be a formal submission/application process run over January/February 2017. However if you wish to be considered for our Fully Funded Program and included in our program funding applications, you must submit your Expression of Interest by 9 Dec 2016.
We hope to engage 4 to 8 artists in this program depending on suitable quality applications and available funding.

- Individual Artists with or without non-artist partners
- Partnered artists who have separate art practices and are happy to share accommodation and studio space
- Teams of two or more artists who work collaboratively and are prepared to share accommodation and studio space.
